Cheshire Police revealed the suspect planned to drive against traffic flow. He now faces a string of charges including:

The chase climaxed near junction 20 at Lymm around 3:30 pm, where the BMW was forced off the M56 onto the M6. Eyewitness Chris Gibney filmed the tense moment police boxed in the car. He described the harrowing near-miss with his own vehicle and praised the swift actions of officers, including a dog handler.

Police Praise Team for Quick, Crucial Action

Inspector Anton Sullivan from Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit said the driver posed a massive risk to the public, especially during peak traffic. “It was vital to stop him before reaching the Thelwall Viaduct,” Sullivan explained.

The incident wrapped up quickly, allowing a speedy cleanup and reopening of the motorway’s outer lane. The suspect remains in custody as police continue to investigate.
