The chase climaxed near junction 20 at Lymm around 3:30 pm, where the BMW was forced off the M56 onto the M6. Eyewitness Chris Gibney filmed the tense moment police boxed in the car. Police Praise Team for Quick, Crucial Action
Inspector Anton Sullivan from Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit said the driver posed a massive risk to the public, especially during peak traffic. “It was vital to stop him before reaching the Thelwall Viaduct,” Sullivan explained.
The incident wrapped up quickly, allowing a speedy cleanup and reopening of the motorway’s outer lane. The suspect remains in custody as police continue to investigate.
