Chaos at Brixton O2 Academy: Four in Critical Condition After Crowd Crush
Police rushed to the Brixton O2 Academy on Thursday night after reports of a massive crowd trying to force their way into the venue.
Eight Hurt in Crushing Incident
Officers, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade arrived at 9.35pm to find several people injured in what’s believed to be a crowd crush. Eight victims were taken to hospital, with four fighting for their lives in critical condition. Two others were treated at the scene for less severe injuries.
Major Investigation Underway
Detectives from Specialist Crime have launched an urgent probe. The area remains cordoned off as officers continue their enquiries. No arrests have been made so far.
Commander Ade Adelekan, Met Police Gold Commander: “This is an extremely upsetting incident which has left four people critically ill in hospital. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.”
“The investigation will be thorough and forensic, with specialist officers examining the scene and CCTV footage. We will speak to every witness and follow all leads,” Adelekan added.
Police Urge Caution Over Social Media Clips
Commander Adelekan also addressed videos circulating online. He urged the public to think carefully before sharing material that could distress victims and families.
“Where force has been used by police, officers will be held accountable. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards will review all footage, including Body Worn Video. I can confirm no police dogs were deployed at the scene,” he said.
