Eleven People and Cats Rescued After Southampton Flat Blaze
Chaos erupted in Bitterne, Southampton, when a fire broke out in a ground-floor flat, forcing eleven residents and several cats to flee for their lives.
Smoke Fills Stairwell, Fire Crews Spring Into Action
Firefighters from Hightown and St Mary’s rushed to the scene of the four-storey block after smoke engulfed the stairwell. They quickly led residents to safety, using hoses to douse the flames and fans to clear the thick smoke.
Injuries and Animal Rescue
The fire started on a cooker in the flat’s kitchen. A 71-year-old woman, the occupant of the flat, was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation but is expected to recover. Three others also received treatment at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Several cats were checked by an animal rescue specialist, who provided care advice to their owners.
Blaze Under Control, Investigation Underway
Thanks to the swift response from fire crews, the fire was extinguished quickly, preventing further damage or injuries. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
