British Tourist, 58, Drowns at Popular Spanish Beach
A 58-year-old British man tragically drowned off Cap Sant Pere beach in Cambrils, Spain. His wife spotted him floating unconscious in the water and raised the alarm. Police and a hotel lifeguard rushed to the scene, but despite frantic efforts, he was pronounced dead just before 3pm on Tuesday. His wife suffered a panic attack and received treatment nearby.
At the time, a yellow flag warned swimmers to be cautious.
Suspected Heart Attack, Limited Lifeguard Patrols
Authorities believe the Brit may have suffered a heart attack while swimming, although how he made it back to shore remains unclear. His identity has not been released.
Cap Sant Pere beach does not have lifeguard patrols outside the peak season. The closest lifeguard team is at Vilafortuny Beach, some distance away. Reports say lifeguards were not initially alerted but arrived after hearing sirens.
Another Tragedy Just 15 Minutes Away
Just 15 minutes from Cambrils, Salou’s Llarga Beach recently witnessed a heart-wrenching double drowning. Siblings Ameiya, 13, and Ricardo Junior, 11, lost their lives in late July while on holiday with family.
“Maya was intelligent, thoughtful, and growing into a strong young woman. Ricardo Junior was playful, kind, and always smiling,” said cousin Holly Marquis-Johnson. “Their absence has left an unbearable silence for their whole family, who shared an unbreakable bond.”
These tragic deaths underline the hidden dangers holidaymakers face in Spain’s beautiful yet sometimes perilous waters.
