Ex-Met Police Officer Convicted of Multiple Rapes and Kidnap
Cliff Mitchell’s Shocking Crimes Uncovered
Cliff Mitchell, 24, a former Metropolitan Police officer from Putney, has been found guilty of ten counts of rape, three counts of raping a child under 13, one count of kidnap, and breaching a non-molestation order. The verdict was delivered on February 21 at Croydon Crown Court. At the time several offences were committed, Mitchell worked as a PC in Hounslow.
Victims Show Extraordinary Courage
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy slammed Mitchell’s “abhorrent behaviour” and praised the bravery of his victims. “Their courage in coming forward and giving evidence was crucial in securing this conviction,” he said, condemning the suffering Mitchell caused.
Abuse of Power Amplified the Horror
The court revealed how Mitchell used his status as a police officer to threaten victims, telling one she wouldn’t be believed. This gross abuse of authority worsened the crimes committed against them, showcasing a chilling betrayal of trust.
Met Police Vows Zero Tolerance
Cundy reassured the public that the Met is serious about cleansing its ranks of corrupt officers. He highlighted major investments in professional standards and specialist recruitment to combat misconduct. Mitchell was dismissed from the Met in December 2023, before his conviction.
Knife-Point Rape and Escape
The charges stem from a terrifying incident on September 5, 2023, where Mitchell raped a woman at knifepoint, blindfolded and restrained her, then forced her into his car. The victim bravely escaped and got help, leading to Mitchell’s arrest.
Further Evidence and Additional Charges
Following the arrest, the Met’s Domestic Abuse and Sexual Offending (DASO) team found key evidence, including the hooded top worn during the assault and cable ties matching the victim’s description. Further allegations from a second victim, covering 2014 to 2017, led to more charges.
Justice Served, No One Is Above the Law
This case highlights the Met Police’s commitment to prosecuting officers guilty of sexual crimes. Mitchell’s conviction sends a clear message: position or authority offers no protection from justice.
Mitchell is set to be sentenced soon and faces a lengthy prison term for his appalling crimes.
