Woman Jailed for Three Years Over Bristol Riot Showdown
Charly Pitman Found Guilty of Rioting
Charly Pitman from Brislington, Bristol, was convicted of rioting in April following a tense trial at Bristol Crown Court.
Prison Sentence Handed Down
On 7 July, Judge Julian Lambert sentenced Pitman to three years behind bars for her role in the violent disturbances.
Facing Police, Pitman Took The Lead
Jurors watched chilling footage showing Pitman aggressively confronting officers near the neighbourhood police station. She positioned herself at the front of the crowd, striking police shields and helmets, sparking fears for officer safety.
“Pitman made a conscious decision not to leave the riot and encouraged others to attack police officers,” said Judge Lambert.
The judge also dismissed Pitman’s claim of self-defence, noting the jury saw no grounds for it.
Wider Impact
Altogether, those convicted for riot-related crimes, including Pitman, have racked up a combined prison term of 74 years and nine months.
