A six-year-old child has been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport under police escort following an emergency call to Cromwell Avenue in East Cowes this morning. Neighbours watched in shock as numerous emergency vehicles swamped the area.

One local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “No one is saying anything. There have been loads of police in the road all morning but no details. The family in that house are really nice.”

They added, “I even saw one of the family being carried to an ambulance. I just hope the little one is OK.”

Forensics officers in white paper suits have been meticulously photographing homes around the cordoned-off area. Several neighbouring properties remain sealed off, guarded by police.
