Emergency response to chemical smell

Emergency services were called to a chemical incident at a commercial property on Wimbledon High Road, SW19, around 12:30pm today. Police responded after reports of a strong chemical odour from the building.

No suspicious activity, multiple hospitalised

Police say the incident is not thought to be suspicious. Before firefighters arrived, 12 people evacuated the building. Several individuals were assessed on site, with three men and a woman taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service after exposure to the chemicals.

Fumigation likely cause

Authorities believe the source of the chemical smell was fumigation carried out overnight at the premises. An official update on any injuries is still awaited.
