Extinction Rebellion Storms Barclays in Brighton – Four Arrested
This afternoon, climate activists from Extinction Rebellion staged a dramatic protest outside Barclays bank on North Street, Brighton. Several members “locked on” to the building as part of a UK-wide day of action targeting major high street banks, including protests in Birmingham and Aberdeen.
Police Move In Quickly
Sussex Police arrived at the scene around 1:15pm on November 14. Officers attempted to keep the protest peaceful and minimise disruption for the public and businesses.
Sussex Police said: “Four people have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and taken into custody.”
Bank Bosses and Protesters Face Off
The protest calls attention to environmental concerns linked to big banks. Extinction Rebellion’s action highlights growing anger at the financial sector’s role in climate change.
Police are continuing investigations following the arrests.
