Manchester Arena Bomber Named: Salman Abedi, 23, Killed 22 and Injured Dozens
Salman Abedi, 23, has been identified as the suicide bomber who blew himself up at the Manchester Arena following an Ariana Grande concert. The blast killed Abedi and at least 22 others, leaving at least 59 injured.
ISIS Claims Responsibility for Deadly Manchester Attack
Police say Abedi used an improvised explosive device in the brutal attack. ISIS has already claimed responsibility. Born in Manchester in 1994, Abedi—possibly known fully as Salmon Ramadan Abedi—was the second youngest of four siblings. His parents fled Libya’s Gaddafi regime and settled in the UK.
Family Background and Investigation Underway
Abedi’s parents, Samia Tabbal, 50, and Ramadan Abedi, a former security officer, both hail from Libya. They initially moved to London before settling in Fallowfield, south Manchester, where they lived for over a decade. The couple had four children: two older sons, Hashem, 20, and daughter Jomana, 18. Rumours suggest the family, minus the two eldest sons, recently returned to Libya.
Police Hunt for Possible Accomplices and Future Threats
The counter-terror network and MI5 are urgently probing Abedi’s movements and potential links to others. Officials believe he may have acted alone in detonating the bomb. However, detectives are investigating whether he had help planning the atrocity and if more attacks could follow.
Greater Manchester Police have also confirmed a 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the bombing amid the ongoing investigation.
