Shock in Sheffield as Young Man Fatally Shot on Easter Sunday

Sheffield is reeling after 25-year-old Abdullah Hassan was shot dead on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. Emergency services rushed to Callow Drive in Gleadless Valley, where Abdullah was found seriously injured. Despite paramedics’ best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family Mourns ‘Unique’ Son and Brother

Abdullah’s family has shared a heart-rending photo of him smiling, remembering him as a “huge pillar” in their lives. In a touching statement, they said:

“The passing of our son and brother has caused our entire family deep sadness and hurt. He was unique on the inside and out. Losing him in such tragic circumstances is heartbreaking. We respectfully ask for time to mourn and hope justice will be served swiftly.”

A post-mortem confirmed Abdullah died from a single gunshot wound. South Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation, which remains ongoing. Officers are still at the scene as inquiries continue.

Local Residents Speak Out: ‘Shocking and Disgusting’

Neighbours have expressed their horror at the killing. Jeanette Herring, 50, a grandmother living nearby, said:

“I feel so sorry for the young man’s parents, waking up to such terrible news. It’s shocking, disgusting, and totally unexpected. This is usually a nice, pleasant neighbourhood where I walk every day without fear.”

An electrician living in the nearby Bank Wood flats for 15 years added:

“It’s very shocking. There’s been minor crime before but nothing like this.”
