Man Shot by Police in Greenwich After Armed Standoff
Armed Police Respond to Gun Sightings
A man was shot by armed police in South East London’s Greenwich this afternoon, August 5. Officers rushed to Creek Road near Greenwich Market at around 2.30pm following multiple reports of a man carrying a gun.
The suspect was shot on scene and quickly airlifted to a major trauma centre. Authorities said his injuries are not life-threatening and he remains in stable condition.
Emergency Services Swarm Scene
An air ambulance landed at the nearby Laban Dance School, while territorial support group vans blocked off roads. Creek Road remains closed both ways, forcing traffic to divert through Greenwich High Road and Deptford. The A2 Blackheath Hill is experiencing heavy congestion.
Locals Locked Down Over Shooting
Residents heard a faint gunshot at about 2pm, sparking fear and lockdowns in the area. Nursery staff at Maritime Minis had to lock doors and keep children inside for safety. One employee said, “We were not permitted to take the children outside. The chef told us to lock the doors after hearing a gun had been spotted.”
Police Confirm No Terror Link
The Metropolitan Police say the shooting is not terror-related and there is no ongoing threat to the public. Officers urged people to avoid Creek Road while investigations continue.
A police spokesperson said: “The London Ambulance Service and air ambulance treated the man on scene before hospital transfer. His injuries are not life-threatening.”
Local eyewitnesses remain cautious after hearing the gunshot, describing the mood as tense with many afraid to leave their homes on the estate.
