Man Dies After Police Shooting in Dagenham Standoff
Police scrambled to Weston Green, Dagenham at 8pm on Thursday, 23 November, following a desperate call from a man threatening to take his own life.
The man told officers he was armed with loaded guns, sparking a tense armed response.
Armed Police and Negotiators Called In
Firearms officers rushed to the scene, joined by specialist negotiators who tried to coax the man to safety. Despite their efforts, the situation escalated.
Shortly before 9pm, police fired shots. The man was immediately given first aid, including CPR, but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene just after 9:30pm.
Investigation Underway
A non-police firearm was discovered at the address. Police confirmed no one else was present during the grim incident.
Commander Kyle Gordon, Frontline Policing Commander for North and East, said: “My thoughts are with the man’s loved ones, the local community, and the officers involved. He is believed to be around 40 years old. His next of kin has been informed and will receive our full support.”

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an independent investigation.
“We have been notified by the Metropolitan Police Service that a man was fatally shot in Dagenham shortly before 9pm. Our investigators are at the scene and reviewing the police post-incident procedures,” said an IOPC spokesman. “No further information is available at this time.”
