Scorching Summer Heat Set to Bake UK This Week

After a soggy and unsettled start to the week across parts of England and Wales, the UK is finally gearing up for a proper taste of summer. Temperatures are set to soar, with some areas sizzling into the high 20s by Friday and Saturday.

Midweek Heatwave on the Horizon

From Wednesday onwards, a high-pressure zone will push a warm southerly breeze across the southern half of the UK. Expect temperatures to climb into the mid-20s Celsius, with isolated spots, especially in the southeast, potentially hitting 26 or 27C. Friday and Saturday could see the mercury peak around 29C, and an occasional 30C cannot be ruled out.

But Beware: Rain and Thunderstorms Ready to Crash the Party

Don’t pack away your brollies just yet. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert warns of a rain warning already in place for northern England and northern Wales.

“Many places will see 20-30mm of rain, with some spots possibly getting 60-80mm,” Lehnert said. “The wet weather will shift northeast by Tuesday, but Scotland, especially Glasgow and Edinburgh, could still see heavy showers.”

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris added, “A frontal system moving in from the west on Friday evening could bring thunderstorms and heavy downpours, particularly after a very muggy night in the southeast. This could throw a spanner in the works for the warm spell.”

Weekend Outlook: Warm but Showers Return

Rain and thunderstorms will continue to push northeast on Saturday, accompanied by warm temperatures spreading into northern areas. Following this, cooler and cloudier conditions with isolated showers will sweep in from the west, though eastern and southeastern parts of the UK will remain pleasantly warm.

By Sunday and early next week, temperatures are expected to dip back towards the seasonal average. However, there’s a slim chance of a late warm-up if a fresh blast of continental heat moves in.

Get ready for some proper summer sun—but keep your weather eye peeled for those sudden storms!
