Knife-Wielding Man Arrested After Dramatic Rooftop Standoff in Kingswood

Kent Police sealed off Pitt Road and Gravelly Bottom Road in Kingswood following a rooftop standoff that began late Thursday night and stretched into the early hours of Friday. A man brandishing a knife was finally arrested after a tense three-hour stand-off.

Armed Police and Emergency Crews Swarm Scene

The incident kicked off around 12.30am when the man climbed onto the roof of a house armed with a knife. Cops quickly cordoned off the area, deploying armed officers with tasers and shields, tactical units, a police dog, and response teams from Maidstone. A Maidstone fire crew and an advanced paramedic were also called to the scene.

Police even sent up a helicopter from Redhill to assist control room officers with an aerial view, though it had to return after two hours due to fuel running low. Kent Fire and Rescue’s drone team was put on standby but stood down as the situation unfolded.

Domestic Incident Leads to Roof Refuge

It is believed the man had been involved in a domestic row before retreating to the roof wielding the knife. Officers were seen entering the property armed with tasers and shields during the operation. The man was arrested on suspicion of affray and assault and is currently in custody.

Injuries Unknown, Investigation Ongoing

Details remain unclear about whether anyone was hurt during the ordeal or the condition of the man’s father, who was reportedly involved. Kent Police have confirmed the arrest but have yet to release further updates.

The dramatic rooftop drama has left locals shaken as emergency services worked through the night to bring the situation under control.
