This afternoon (28th March), police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) scrambled to tackle a fire under PHX Gym in Hollingbury, Brighton.
Fire Crews Battle Flames with Aerial Ladder
A fire service aerial ladder, several fire engines, and a mobile command unit were spotted at the scene. Crowhurst Road was blocked off as emergency teams fought the blaze.
Our on-site reporter revealed that crews expected to remain for hours. Gym members were evacuated after smelling smoke.
Bus Routes Diverted, Locals Urged to Stay Safe
- Bus services to Hollingbury ASDA are now diverted and won’t serve the store.
- ESFRS advises locals to keep doors and windows shut while the fire is tackled.
Official Statement from Fire Service
“East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called at 18:28 on 29 March 2023 after reports of a fire at a building on Crowhurst Road, Brighton. As of 18:55, we are using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, covering jets, and the aerial appliance. The fire involves a two-storey commercial building housing storage and a gym,” an ESFRS spokesperson said.
“There are no reports of casualties. Police are assisting at the scene. Please avoid the area.”
