The Metropolitan Police are conducting an investigation into an aggravated burglary that occurred in the early hours of Monday, 17 July. Police were called to a residential address on Lee High Road at approximately 4:05 am following reports of a group of individuals armed with weapons forcing entry into the property.
Upon receiving the report, officers, including armed units and the police helicopter, swiftly responded to the scene. The exact nature of the weapons involved has not been disclosed at this time. No reports of serious injuries have been received.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police released a statement confirming the incident and providing some details. They stated, ” At approximately 04:05hrs on Monday, 17 July officers on patrol became aware of an aggravated burglary that had taken place at a venue in Lee High Road, SE13.
Officers, including armed officers and the police helicopter, were called to the scene.
A number of males reported they had been inside the venue playing a card game when a group, armed with weapons including a firearm, forced their way inside. Various items were stolen including cash and jewellery before the suspects fled the scene.
Two men were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during the incident – neither man’s injuries are life-threatening.
Five men – all aged in their 20s – were detained close to the scene. A holdall containing a firearm and a quantity of class A drugs was recovered from a parked car; a second holdall containing items believed stolen was also recovered nearby. All give have been arrested for offences including possession of a firearm, aggravated burglary and possession with intent to supply class A drugs. They all remain in custody.
Detectives from the Flying Squad investigate – enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.
