Gogglebox Star George Gilbey Dies in Tragic Workplace Accident
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following the tragic death of Gogglebox star George Gilbey.
Police Investigate Fatal Fall at Shoebury Workplace
Essex Police confirmed the 40-year-old reality TV favourite died after an incident at his place of work on Campfield Road, Shoebury. Officers responded to reports that Gilbey fell from height and, despite emergency attempts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
A spokesperson said:
“We have arrested a man in his 40s from the Witham area on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. This is a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive, and inquiries are ongoing.”
From Gogglebox to Celebrity Big Brother
George Gilbey rose to fame alongside mum Linda McGarry and stepdad Pete McGarry on Channel 4’s Gogglebox, where his sharp wit made him a fan favourite. Pete passed away in 2021 aged 71.
Gilbey also made headlines on the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, reaching the final alongside stars like The Hills’ Stephanie Pratt and Gary Busey, who won that year.

A Gogglebox spokesperson expressed heartfelt condolences:
