Minicab driver left fighting for life after terrifying Hackney attack
Detectives are hunting a gang after a minicab driver suffered a suspected heart attack during a violent rampage in Hackney.
Minicab targeted on Amhurst Road
Just before midnight on Saturday, March 30, police were scrambled after reports that a group of men were smashing up a Toyota Prius on Amhurst Road, N16. When officers and paramedics arrived, they found the driver, a man in his 40s, inside the car experiencing a severe medical emergency.
Driver suffers life-threatening medical episode
The minicab driver was treated at the scene for a suspected heart attack before being rushed to a hospital in east London. He remains in critical condition.
Suspects in white Ford Focus escape after savage attack
Detectives revealed the victim’s car had been tailed by a white Ford Focus. At the junction of Amhurst Park Road and Rav Pinter Close, the Ford boxed in the Prius. Four or five males armed with weapons jumped out and smashed the windows before speeding off. Three other passengers in the minicab were unharmed.
Detective Constable James Readman said: “I would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack or may have information regarding this incident. Although the driver was not injured directly by the suspects, it is believed he was taken ill shortly after the attack on the car. He now remains in hospital in a life threatening condition and my officers are working to identify the group of males responsible.”
“It appears this was a planned attack and an investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident taking place.”
Police are urging anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting CAD 8702/30March, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
