Met Police clamp down ahead of Palestine protest march in London
Protest Route and Timing Set in Stone
The Met Police have laid down strict rules for the Palestine Coalition’s march this Saturday. The march “forms up” at Piccadilly at noon but won’t move until 12:45pm. From there, protesters will snake through Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, and Cockspur Street, finishing in Whitehall.
A rally will follow in Whitehall but must end by 5pm sharp.
Police Vow to Keep London Safe and Running
T/Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dr Alison Heydari, leading the weekend policing, said:
“We’ve worked closely with the Palestine Coalition, residents, businesses, faith groups, and community leaders. It’s a busy weekend with Black Friday and Winter Wonderland crowds, so we’ve balanced the right to protest with minimising disruption.”
Officers will patrol the route and surrounding areas to ensure a safe, orderly march.
Strict Legal Conditions Under the Public Order Act
- No assembly before 12:00pm on Saturday in the Piccadilly area.
- Protesters must stay in the designated zone until the march begins.
- The march must follow the set route — no detours allowed.
- All activities must wrap up by 5pm to avoid prolonged disruption.
With London’s streets already strained from recent protests, the Met is determined to uphold the right to protest – without plunging the capital into chaos.
