Murder Probe Launched After Elderly Man Found Dead in River Don

South Yorkshire Police have kicked off a murder investigation after the body of an 82-year-old man was found in the River Don at Mexborough, Doncaster, earlier today. Emergency services were called at 7:36 AM, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Men Held Over Suspicious Death

Police have arrested two men, aged 30 and 32, on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody as detectives push ahead with their inquiries. The investigation, already serious, has taken a dark turn as officers seek answers.

A section of the riverbank has been cordoned off for forensic examination. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said, “We are now treating this as a murder investigation. Our detectives are diligently working to piece together the events that led to this tragic incident.”
