Drug Gangs Devastated as Police Smash 250 County Lines in Huge Nationwide Crackdown
In a massive blow to drug cartels across the UK, police have dismantled 250 county lines and arrested over 1,600 suspects in a week-long blitz. The National County Lines Coordination Centre (NCLCC), led by the NPCC, orchestrated the operation, seizing millions in drugs and cash while rescuing scores of vulnerable victims.
£1.2 Million Worth of Drugs & Cash Hauled In
Officers from across the country seized an eye-watering haul during County Lines Intensification Week (Oct 9-15):
- 103kg of cannabis
- 40kg of Class A drugs, including £437,000 of crack cocaine and £100,000 of heroin
- 33 guns, 377 knives, plus crossbows, batons, and knuckle dusters
- £1.28 million in cash
A standout raid in the West Midlands, personally attended by Home Secretary Suella Braverman, uncovered £850,000 worth of cannabis from factories holding over 850 plants and nearly 6kg of dried weed.
Protecting the Vulnerable from Ruthless Exploitation
Police referred 710 vulnerable people, including 58 children, to safeguarding services during the sweep. County lines gangs trap youngsters using cannabis debt, forcing them to carry and sell drugs under threat and violence.
“These criminals use coercion and violence to exploit young people,” said Suella Braverman. “We will not tolerate illegal drugs of any kind, and we must rid our communities of these criminals.”
Support services like the Home Office-funded Catch 22 are crucial in breaking the cycle of abuse and helping victims rebuild their lives.
Ongoing Battle: Thousands of Arrests & County Lines Shut Down
This crackdown builds on government stats showing since April 2022:
- 1,700 county lines closed
- 3,300 arrests
- 4,100 vulnerable people referred for help
Police Chief Commander Paul Brogden issued a stark warning: “Our message is clear to anyone running county lines across the country; we will be relentless in our pursuit of you.”
The government’s County Lines Programme, launched in 2019, continues to empower law enforcement and victims’ support groups in their fight against drug-fuelled violence and exploitation.
