EastEnders Shocker: Dr. Anthony Trueman Makes Big Comeback!
Fans of BBC One’s EastEnders are buzzing as Nicholas Bailey steps back into the shoes of Dr. Anthony Trueman after more than a decade away from Albert Square. The beloved character, last seen in 2014, is set for a surprise return that’s turning into a major storyline in 2025.
From Brief Surprise to Full-Blown Drama
Originally appearing from 2000 to 2003, Bailey’s Dr. Trueman became a fan favourite, especially thanks to his fiery romance with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace). He popped back briefly in 2014 during a touching plot about his on-screen dad, Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker), suffering a stroke.
Now, Executive Producer Ben Wadey reveals the 2025 comeback isn’t just a quick guest spot:
“It’s great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son. But Anthony’s plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.”
Nicholas Bailey: “An Unexpected Treat” to Return
Bailey admitted the chance to play Anthony again came as a lovely surprise:
“It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders and I’m full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony. It’s wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again—he’s such a big part of my journey as an actor, and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.”
The actor teased a “rich, emotional storyline” that explores how time has changed both Anthony and his relationship with Patrick.
Fans Have Been Waiting – Now Dr. Trueman Is Back
Bailey hinted at a comeback years ago in a 2018 chat with The Sun:
“The character is there, and I never say never to anything. If they had a storyline and they had something for me to do, then you never say never… They know where the phone is.”
After years of speculation and pleading from viewers, the wait is over. Early scenes for Anthony’s extended 2025 storyline have already been filmed, with more details expected this summer.
Get ready, Walford – Dr. Trueman’s back and here to shake things up!
