Armed cops ditch gear to help pensioner change tyre in Southampton street
It’s not all about chasing burglars and muggers for Hampshire’s finest. With the police force stretched thin and facing pressure to focus on serious crime, community policing took centre stage today in Southampton.
Senior citizen flags down police for a roadside rescue
An elderly motorist in his 80s flagged down a passing patrol car on West End High Street after his car suffered a flat tyre. Worried his wife, also in her late 80s, would get cold, he called in the cavalry — two armed officers on routine duties.
Police roll up sleeves to fix flat tyre
One six-foot officer shed his body armour while his female colleague rummaged through the patrol car for a wheel brace. Together, they changed the tyre right there on the street, much to the delight of passing motorists who honked in approval.
Community policing alive and kicking
The simple act of a couple of cops helping an elderly couple reminded everyone that police work isn’t always about crime fighting — it’s also about serving and supporting the community.
