Police Horse Attacked by Dog Befriends New Canine Pal
Urbane, the police horse mauled by an American Bully dog in east London’s Victoria Park, has found a furry friend while on the mend. Despite his horrific attack, Urbane was recently spotted bonding with a friendly black Labrador – proving he’s still a true dog lover.
Terrifying Attack in Victoria Park
The drama unfolded last month when Urbane, on duty with two mounted officers in Hackney’s Victoria Park, was viciously bitten by an off-leash American Bully. A chilling video showed the dog clamping down hard on Urbane’s leg, refusing to let go as officers shouted to restrain the beast.
Passersby had to step in, with one brave man using a stick to shoo the aggressive dog away. The American Bully was later seized and is now held in police kennels.
Urbane’s Road to Recovery
Urbane suffered wounds to his legs, chest, and underbelly but is making a steady recovery at a stable outside central London. The Met Police confirmed he’s seen by vets daily and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Urbane has been inundated with apples and treats from concerned and generous citizens,” a Met spokesperson revealed.
He was taken off duty to recuperate after the savage 23 March attack. The Met shared a heartwarming photo on Twitter of Urbane leaning out of his stable to meet their Equine Dentist’s black Labrador.
“PH Urbane has always been a dog lover and continues to recover really well. Despite his recent experience, he was eager to meet our Equine Dentist’s dog today. Thank you for your continued questions and well wishes for him!”
Tragedy and Triumph
Urbane’s story doesn’t end there. Last year, his partner collapsed and died at the Notting Hill Carnival. Now, the courageous horse is focused on healing and has captured the hearts of Londoners with his resilient spirit and canine friendship.
