Kent and Medway Gear Up for Easter Travel Chaos! The Kent and Medway Resilience Forum (KMRF) has confirmed it will unleash the notorious Operation Brock barrier as heavy traffic hurtles towards Europe this Easter.
M20 Contraflow Set to Cause Delays
The M20 coastbound between Junctions 8 and 9 will see the contraflow system slammed into place. A reduced speed limit will be enforced to carve out a dedicated lane just for HGVs to queue—if needed.
Installation begins on Wednesday, 1st April, with the motorway reopening a day later on Thursday, 2nd April. The barrier will be ripped out overnight on Tuesday, 7th April, returning the road to normal by Wednesday, 8th April.
What’s the Point of Operation Brock?
Operation Brock isn’t just a roadblock – it’s a vital pressure valve. It keeps traffic moving and stops jams from spilling across the motorway.
The contraflow also protects local communities by preventing closure of the Roundhill Tunnel near Folkestone, which often sparks gridlock on smaller roads.
Warning from the Top Brass
Simon Jones, KMRF Strategic Lead for Border Disruption, said: “We only deploy Operation Brock when data shows a spike in crossing demand. This week’s predicted numbers fully justify the barrier.”
“We understand the decision isn’t popular, but it’s necessary to ease congestion and keep traffic flowing.”
Driver Advice: Prepare for Delays!
- Check your travel routes before setting off.
- Allow extra journey time.
- Pack essentials like food, water, and medication in case you get stuck.
