Tragic Crash Claims Life of Off-Duty PCSO Holly Burke in Bearwood
A 28-year-old West Midlands Police Community Support Officer, Holly Burke, has died after a fatal collision in Bearwood last night. Holly, who served with the Washwood Heath neighbourhood team at Nechells, was off duty when the tragedy struck.
High-Speed Chase Ends in Horror
The drama unfolded around 11.30pm on Lordswood Road, near the junction with Hagley Road. A Renault Scenic, wanted by police after failing to stop, was chased for 15 minutes. Officers deployed a stinger on Bearwood Road, but the car sped on and smashed into Holly’s vehicle.
Despite desperate efforts by emergency crews, Holly was pronounced dead at the scene.
Driver Arrested – Investigation Underway
- The Renault’s 42-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
- He remains in police custody as the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigates.
- Holly’s family have been informed and are receiving support during this heartbreaking time.

“This is a desperately sad time for everyone who knew Holly,” said Chief Superintendent Kenny Bell, Birmingham East neighbourhood policing commander. “Our thoughts and condolences are with her family, friends, and colleagues.”
“Holly has been taken from us too soon and as a police family, we are feeling this deeply.”
