Police Launch Festive Crackdown on Drink and Drug Drivers

Police are urging the public to report suspected drink or drug drivers as part of a tough new Christmas crackdown. Starting tomorrow (1 December), the National Police Chiefs Council is leading a month-long campaign to stamp out dangerous driving this festive season.

More Road Patrols and Targeted Traffic Stops

swindon/" title="Swindon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Swindon and Wiltshire will see ramped-up police activity throughout December. Community Policing Teams are gearing up for intelligence-led stops, zeroing in on flagged suspects. Meanwhile, roads policing officers will be out in force to catch anyone breaking the law behind the wheel.

Inspector Mark Freeman, head of Wiltshire Police’s roads policing unit, stressed the vital role of public tips. “Good quality local intelligence lets us focus on high-risk drivers,” he said. “Whether it’s a one-off sighting of someone leaving a pub drunk or the regular offenders who stick to the same routes, we need your calls.”

Changing Habits Mean Tougher Messaging

Sergeant Neil Bott revealed the pandemic has changed how people drink. “With more people drinking at home and joining virtual parties, we must remind everyone that any alcohol, in any setting, can push you over the limit,” he warned.

“Alcohol stays in your system for hours, so be cautious when driving even the next morning.”

If You See Something, Say Something

Police urge anyone who suspects someone of drink or drug driving to call 101 with as much info as possible — descriptions, car registrations, timings, and patterns all help. If a crime is happening right now and someone is on the road under the influence, dial 999 immediately.

Don’t be the reason a family in Wiltshire suffers this Christmas. Stay safe, stay sober, and help keep the roads clear of danger.
