Fake Water Inspector Targets Elderly in Salisbury Scam
Police are hunting a conman who fooled elderly residents in Salisbury with a slick distraction burglary. At around 2.45pm on March 24, a man wearing a blue BUPA jacket turned up at a home on Nursery Road claiming to be from the water board. He told the pensioners their property had a leak.
While the homeowner was distracted by this bogus official, a second crook slipped inside to swipe purses and a tin full of money.

How to Stay Safe from Doorstep Scammers
- Always use your door viewer before opening up
- If you do open the door, put the chain on first
- Ask for ID and verify it by calling the company using a number from the phone book or official website – never trust ID cards on their own
- Genuine workers won’t mind you checking — if unsure, arrange a return visit with a friend or relative present
- Set up a password scheme for pre-arranged utility appointments
- If you feel threatened, call 999 immediately
