Man Arrested After Girl Approached Near Newbury School

Police have arrested a 74-year-old man from Newbury following a creepy incident on Penwood Road, Wash Water. A 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in a blue estate car while walking home from school on 4 November 2020.

Girl Walked Away as Man Tried to Speak

The man pulled up beside the girl and attempted to speak to her. Luckily, the girl walked away safely. The suspect was later arrested and has been bailed until 7 December as the investigation continues.

Police Warn Parents to Stay Alert

“We understand incidents like this are worrying for the community,” said Superintendent Lindsey Finch, West Berkshire’s LPA Commander. “We will keep up patrols to reassure parents, children, and schools.”

“Parents should remind children how to stay safe and what to do if approached by strangers.”

“If anyone has information or if a child has been approached by someone unknown, call police on 101. For emergencies, dial 999.”
