Armed Axe Attack Sparks Panic in Strabane
Police are probing a terrifying burglary in Strabane early this Sunday morning, 9th April. Around 7.30am, two men armed with what looked like an axe forced their way into an apartment on Main Street.
Chaos on Main Street
The suspects smashed windows and hurled objects at officers from inside the flat. They wrecked communal areas and damaged personal belongings. Locals were warned to keep their doors locked and stay clear of windows for safety.
Armed Police Close In
Armed response teams swiftly arrived as the men, reportedly armed with additional weapons found inside, threatened police. After nearly an hour of stand-off, the duo surrendered peacefully just before 8.30am.
Two Men Arrested Amid Serious Charges
Chief Inspector Luke Moyne confirmed:
“Two men were detained at the scene. A 26-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage, assault on police, and breaching licence conditions. A 36-year-old is also in custody for burglary. Both are receiving medical care.”
He added this was a “serious incident” that shook the community on what should have been a calm Sunday morning.

Officers are keen to piece together a full picture and establish a motive. Anyone in the Main Street area who saw these men acting suspiciously is urged to contact police.
