Axe-Wielding Burglars Terrorise Strabane Apartment
Police are hunting two axe-armed men who launched a terrifying burglary in Strabane early this Sunday morning. The duo smashed their way into a Main Street apartment at around 7:30am, causing chaos and fear in the usually quiet town.
Destruction, Threats & Police Standoff
The suspects forced open the apartment door and wrecked communal areas. They hurled items at responding officers from broken windows and damaged personal belongings inside the flat. Local officers teamed with armed units to contain the situation.
Inside, the men grabbed more weapons and issued threats to police. Nearby residents were told to lock their doors and avoid windows for their own safety. After a tense hour-long standoff, both surrendered just before 8:30am.
Two Men Arrested – Investigation Underway
Chief Inspector Luke Moyne confirmed:
“The two men were detained at the scene. A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, criminal damage, assault on police and breach of licence conditions. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Both are currently receiving medical attention.”
He added the incident shook the community on what should have been a peaceful Sunday morning. Police are piecing together the motive behind this nasty rampage.
