Coventry Police Smash Another Cannabis Farm in Day of Raids
Coventry police cracked down hard on organised crime with their second drug raid in just one day. Officers stormed a property on Gulson Road on Wednesday, January 25, bursting through the door and catching two men believed to be Albanian nationals red-handed.
The suspects were arrested and handed over to immigration services as cops uncovered around 90 cannabis plants inside. The heavily used upstairs area was packed with plants being cultivated and harvested. The estimated street value? A whopping £100,000.
£300,000 Worth of Drugs Seized Last Week in Major Operation
This bust follows a massive seizure last week where police found over £300,000 in drugs across several cannabis farms in Coventry. The biggest haul was at a Bramble Street property, described by officers as “one of the worst” drug dens they’d ever seen. That single address contained £230,000 worth of cannabis.
Deadly Fire Risk Over Illegal Electricity Connections
Both properties had their electricity cut off due to illegal usage, creating a serious fire hazard that could have put residents and neighbours at risk. A top police officer warned the sophisticated setups could be “lethal.”
“We were there to ensure the electrics are safe,” said a National Grid spokesman. “Unsafe connections caused by bypassed metres or overloaded sockets pose a fire hazard.
“We strongly advise the public not to tamper with our equipment because the voltages we work with are lethal. Our engineers are trained to deal with risks and have the necessary safety equipment and network authorisations.”
Police Pledge to Keep Targeting Drug Factories
Coventry Police Inspector Alex Heeley said: “As part of Neighbourhood Policing Week, we executed these warrants and shut down sophisticated drug operations. Cannabis cultivation and illegal use of properties fuel the drug trade and cause crime that harms our communities.”
He added: “The electricity bypass setups are dangerous and have led to fires. This can endanger people’s lives. Vulnerable people can be exploited, and we will continue to target those running and organising drug factories.”
So far this year, Coventry Police have uncovered more than 20 cannabis farms in the city, with nearly half found during burglaries where gangs steal crops from rival crews.
