Manhunt Underway for Boxing Day Murder Suspect in Hackney

Detectives are on the hunt for Jurejs Vankovs, 38, in connection with the shocking Boxing Day stabbing of Michael Murphy, 49, in Hackney.

New CCTV Released of Suspect on Red Bike

Michael was fatally stabbed on Cranwood Street, EC1, around 3.10am on 26 December. Police have now released fresh CCTV images showing Vankovs, a Latvian national, wearing a black tracksuit and riding a distinctive red bicycle in Old Street, Islington.

Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen, leading the probe, said:

“We’ve stepped up efforts to find Vankovs. Though the images aren’t entirely clear, his black tracksuit and red bike are unique identifiers. We believe he may still be cycling around the area. Residents in Shoreditch and wider Hackney should be vigilant.”

She warned: “If you spot him, do not approach. Call 999 immediately.”
