Tragic Gosport Blaze: Woman Dies in Furious House Fire
Six Fire Engines Battle Ferocious Fire
Hampshire Fire and Rescue raced to a devastating blaze on Nyria Way, Gosport, on Monday afternoon. Six fire engines from Gosport, Fareham, Portchester, and Cosham battled the inferno that gutted a bungalow and spread to a neighbouring property.
Fire crews arrived just after midday, with 30 firefighters deploying three hose reels and multiple breathing apparatus teams to tackle the flames. Residents nearby were urged to keep doors and windows shut as thick smoke engulfed the area.
Woman Tragically Dies at Scene
Rescue teams pulled a 52-year-old woman from the smoke-filled home. Firefighters administered emergency care and attempted resuscitation with a defibrillator, but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene by air ambulance medics.
Police confirmed the victim’s next of kin have been informed, and a joint investigation between Hampshire Fire Investigation Unit and Hampshire Constabulary has been launched to determine the cause.
Dog Also Lost in Flames
The tragedy extended beyond the human toll, with a dog also dying in the fire. The horror unfolded swiftly, with the fire under control by 2.28pm after massive efforts from emergency crews.
