Royal Gibraltar Regiment Boosts Gambian Forces in Five-Week Training Blitz

UK Troops Train Gambian Soldiers

Troops from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment (RG) have just wrapped up a five-week training mission in The Gambia. The elite Short-Term Training Team, joined by a Royal Marine Medic, delivered a “Train the Trainer” course to sharpen the skills of the Gambian Armed Forces (GAF).

Building African Defence Muscle

This latest deployment is part of the UK’s ongoing push to strengthen military ties and capabilities across Africa. The aim? To enable the GAF to train their own troops and enhance support for future UN peacekeeping missions.

From First Aid to Battlefield Drills

The Gambian soldiers received top-notch refresher training in fieldcraft and first aid. They also honed their teaching skills by developing and delivering lessons themselves. The intense course ended with a realistic battle exercise that put everything to the test.

Top Brass Praise and Awards

Brigadier General Torro Jawneh of the GAF presided over the closing ceremony. He personally handed out awards to the top-performing students, marking the success of this vital UK-Gambia training partnership.
