Sailor Airlifted After Heart Attack Shock on Isle of Wight

A sailor was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth this Saturday afternoon after collapsing onboard a vessel in Newtown Creek, Isle of Wight.

Emergency Rescue Scrambled

The Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent, Cowes Lifeboat, and a Coastguard search team from the Needles were dispatched just after noon.

Heart Attack Hits Amid Mooring Duty

The casualty was collecting mooring fees from a yacht when he suddenly collapsed from a suspected heart attack, falling backward and hitting his head.

Luckily, medically trained crew on the yacht gave immediate first aid.

High-Stakes Airlift and Lifeboat Rescue

A paramedic was winched down from the Coastguard helicopter to perform urgent resuscitation. Because the yacht was in a tricky spot, the man was first carried out of Newtown Estuary by lifeboat before being airlifted to safety.

He was treated onboard the helicopter and rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for further care.
