M20 Reopens After High-Speed Police Chase and Arrest

The M20 is reopening between Junctions 8 and 9 following a dramatic police chase and arrest on Sunday.

Speeding Driver Fleeing Police on M20

At 11:25am on 25 April 2021, Kent Police tried to stop a speeding vehicle on the coastbound M20 near Junction 12. The driver ignored officers, exited the motorway, then reversed direction onto the London-bound side.

Police Stop Chase at Junction 9

The pursuit ended near Junction 9 when a police car made tactical contact, bringing the vehicle to a halt. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Arrest and Bomb Squad Precautions

A 27-year-old Welsh man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop for police. He remains in custody.

As a precaution, the British Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene over fears about the vehicle’s security. The vehicle was declared safe and cleared from the road.

Kent Police thanked motorists for their patience during the motorway closure.
