NHS Vaccination Blitz Hits 15,000 Care Homes Ahead of Christmas

NHS England’s vaccination teams have blitzed 15,019 care homes across the UK, delivering a vital Covid booster to 88.6% of eligible residents. Despite some visits being delayed by outbreaks, the push ensures the elderly are shielded just in time for the festive season.

Almost All Care Home Residents Boosted Against Covid

Residents who missed their jab can still get boosted. Vaccine teams will return, or boosters are available via GPs and the National Booking Service.

“I am delighted that our dedicated NHS staff have been able to go into every care home in the last 12 weeks to ensure residents are protected ahead of Christmas,” said NHS national medical director Professor Sir Stephen Powis. “This means they can spend much-needed time with family and friends without anxiety over spreading Covid and its consequences.”

Call to Action: Get Your Covid Booster Now

Powis urged everyone eligible to get vaccinated quickly as colder months bring higher risks of illness and hospitalisations, especially for the elderly.

“Care home residents were prioritised early so our teams of vaccinators could protect as many people as possible,” commented NHS director for vaccinations and screening Steve Russell. “We’ve now visited every care home ahead of Christmas, and we encourage anyone eligible who hasn’t had their jab to book an appointment now.”

This massive vaccination drive aims to safeguard vulnerable residents, giving families peace of mind this festive season.
