Emergency services swooped on Culver Down this Thursday afternoon amid fears for a woman’s safety near the cliff edge.
Public Raise Alarm at East Wight Beauty Spot
At around 4pm, visitors enjoying the scenic spot grew concerned about a female lingering dangerously close to the edge. The call for help triggered a rapid response from police and HM Coastguard teams.
Massive Rescue Operation Quickly Stand Down
- Coastguard crews from Bembridge and several Hampshire & Isle of Wight police units rushed to the scene, converging at the car park by The Culver Haven Inn.
- Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 blasted off from Lee-On-Solent, while Bembridge RNLI launched both of its lifeboats.
- WightSAR search and rescue volunteers were also mobilised but stood down en route.
Thankfully, police found the woman safe and sound before 4.30pm. Helicopter 175 and Bembridge lifeboats were stood down after just ten minutes.
