Firefighters Battle Flames on Dyke Parade
A suspected petrol bomb attack sparked a fiery Christmas Day ordeal in Cork City, leaving three injured but thankfully alive. Just after 6.20 pm, thick smoke poured from a Dyke Parade home, triggering a swift response from multiple Cork City Fire Brigade units.
Wearing breathing apparatus, brave firefighters entered the burning building while their team used an Aerial Ladder Platform outside to stop the flames spreading. The road was shut down as crews worked against the clock to douse the fire.
Injured Taken to Mercy University Hospital
By 9.30 pm, Cork City Fire Brigade confirmed the blaze was fully extinguished. Three people—one man and two others—were rushed to Mercy University Hospital with injuries that were serious but not life-threatening.
A fire brigade spokesperson praised the crews for their “diligent work under extremely challenging conditions” to contain the blaze and protect neighbouring homes.
Police Launch Technical Examination as Investigation Continues
The Cork Gardaí were alerted promptly on Christmas evening and kept a constant presence at the scene overnight. The property has now been cordoned off for a detailed forensic probe. Authorities are investigating the petrol bomb theory thoroughly.
