Teen Trio Arrested After James Markham, 45, Stabbed to Death in East London

James Markham, 45, was fatally stabbed on Monday evening, 9 August, after confronting a group of youths in the street. The shocking attack unfolded at Churchill Terrace, east London.

Two 14-Year-Old Boys in Custody for Murder and Conspiracy

By Wednesday, police arrested two boys aged 14. One faces suspicion of murder, while the other is held for conspiracy to murder. Both remain in custody at an east London police station.

16-Year-Old Girl Detained for Assisting Offender

On Thursday, 12 August, a 16-year-old girl was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She was taken to the same police station and remains under investigation.

Grim Scene and Police Appeal for Witnesses

Police arrived at 6.20pm Monday following reports of a disturbance. They found James seriously injured by a stab wound to the lung. Despite desperate attempts by emergency services and passersby, James was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector John Marriott said: “We believe that James confronted a group of youths causing a disturbance and was stabbed as a result. The brutality of this response is beyond shocking and our thoughts are with James’ family who have been left devastated by their loss.”

“The arrests are a significant step, but we urgently need the public’s help to uncover the full story. If you were there or know someone involved, please come forward.”

“Parents with children involved should do the sensible thing and contact us. Our dedicated team is determined to bring those responsible to justice.”
