“Edward only ever wanted to be like her. Poppy would coach and support Edward with his football – it was so beautiful to see. The hole in our lives and in so many around us is enormous. We will never be whole again. The world has lost a spirit like no other.”
Shock Crash Under Police Investigation
The tragic incident happened just before 5pm on Wednesday, March 5 at Kendal Rugby Club. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports a black BMW i40 struck two children on the sports pitch.
- Poppy was fatally injured in the collision.
- An 8-year-old girl was also hurt but suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated.
- The driver, a 40-year-old man from Lancaster, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Kendal Rugby Club has closed its facilities during the ongoing investigation. Local MP Tim Farron called the tragedy “devastating and utterly heartbreaking.”
