Deadly Truck Bomb Tears Through Somali Town

A horrific truck bomb explosion has ripped through the heart of Beledweyne, a central Somali town, killing at least 10 people and injuring 20 others. The blast struck a busy checkpoint in a residential area, causing widespread destruction.

Chaos and Destruction at Beledweyne Checkpoint

The truck, loaded with explosives, detonated suddenly, flattening nearby buildings and shops. Shocking videos circulating on social media show frantic residents digging through the rubble, desperately searching for survivors amid the wreckage.

Police officer Ahmed Aden described the grim scene: “So far, I have seen 10 dead people, including soldiers and civilians, and over a dozen injured. The death toll will surely rise.” The checkpoint itself was completely destroyed, along with surrounding kiosks and homes.

Witnesses Speak Out Amid Terror

Local witness Halima Nur was near the blast site. She spoke of her heartbreak: “I do not know what to say, all the kiosks are now just rubble. I can’t trace my niece.” Nur revealed her niece and others were trapped in a nearby shop, now unreachable.

Al-Shabab Conflict Continues to Rage

The attack comes amid ongoing clashes between Somali military forces and the al-Shabab militant group in the Hiran region. No one has yet claimed responsibility.

Al-Shabab has stepped up attacks following President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s declaration of an “all-out war” against the militants. Just a day before the blast, government troops reported killing dozens of fighters in the Galmudug state.

Somalia continues to battle armed insurgencies from groups including al-Shabab and ISIS-linked factions, with civilian lives caught in the crossfire.
