Two Boys Arrested Over Blaze at Vacant Southampton Building
Police have arrested two boys, aged 11 and 13, over a suspicious fire that tore through a vacant commercial property in St Mary’s Street, Southampton. The blaze broke out at 2pm on March 26, prompting emergency crews, including Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, to rush to the scene.
Homes and Businesses Evacuated After Fire
The fire was so severe that residents and businesses nearby had to be evacuated as a safety precaution. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
Police Narrow Down Suspects After Roof Sighting
Earlier, police released an image showing three individuals on the building’s roof just before the fire started. Those suspects have now been identified and ruled out of the investigation.
Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
The two boys arrested in Southampton remain in police custody. Authorities are urging anyone who was near the property before the blaze to come forward with information. Officers believe several people filmed the fire on their mobile phones but have not yet handed over their footage.
“If you or anyone you know was near the building before the fire, any information could be vital,”
said a police spokesperson.
