Body Found in Sandwich Water Sparks Emergency Response

A dramatic early morning discovery in Sandwich saw firefighters, police, and coastguards launched into action after a body was spotted in the water.

Fire Engine and Officers Rush to Rope Walk

At 9.22am on Tuesday, Kent Fire and Rescue dispatched one fire engine and an officer to Rope Walk in Sandwich. The call came after a road sweeper reported seeing a body in the water following an earlier welfare concern raised with Kent Police.

Coastguards Launch Search in Chilly Conditions

Just after 8.30am, coastguards in drysuits were spotted scouring the water near Rope Walk. The area has since been cordoned off by police as the search and investigation continue. A specialized coastguard search and rescue team from Deal was also called in to assist.

Man in His 50s Pronounced Dead at the Scene

A Kent Police spokesman confirmed: “Officers responded to Woodnesborough Road, Sandwich, at 9am on Tuesday, 29 November 2022, following concern for a man in the area.”

He added, “South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene, where a man in his 50s was pronounced deceased.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will now be prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
