Oscar-Winning Composer Hans Zimmer Snaps Up Legendary Maida Vale Studios
Hans Zimmer, the mastermind behind iconic scores like The Lion King and Pirates of the Caribbean, has swooped in as co-owner of the historic Maida Vale Studios. The BBC-owned studio, famed for hosting legends such as David Bowie, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Igor Stravinsky, is now under fresh stewardship.
Legendary Studio Passed from BBC to Star-Studded Partnership
Maida Vale, a cornerstone of British music since the BBC bought it in 1993, has been sold to a power-packed partnership featuring Zimmer, film producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, plus Steven Kofsky. This dream team is dead set on safeguarding the studio’s rich heritage as a hotspot of musical innovation.
Plans to Keep the Music Pumping—Plus Education for the Next Generation
The new owners promise to preserve the iconic studio spaces while adding a not-for-profit education facility. Zimmer, who first stepped into the studio 45 years ago, calls Maida Vale a fountain of inspiration that pushed him to deliver his best work. Their goal is to keep that creative magic alive and kickstart fresh talent.
“Maida Vale has always been a place that inspired me to dig deep and create my best music,” said Zimmer.
BBC Cheers Sale and Looks Ahead to Future Music Hubs
Lorna Clarke, BBC Director of Music, hailed the sale as a win for British culture, job creation, and education. The move coincides with BBC’s grand plan to relocate its music studios to a state-of-the-art facility in Stratford’s East Bank, opening in late 2025. This new hub will host Radio 1’s Live Lounge, BBC Proms rehearsals, and hold the world’s largest sheet music collection—all with public access to boot.
