GMP Traffic officers made a major arrest in Wigan after pulling over a van for what initially appeared to be a simple MOT failure — but the situation quickly escalated.
During routine roadside checks, officers discovered that the driver had no valid driving licence and no insurance. A drug swipe test conducted at the scene returned a positive result, and further searches uncovered quantities of drugs and cash inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested on multiple offences, including:
-
Driving without a licence
-
Driving without insurance
-
Driving under the influence of drugs
-
Possession of drugs with intent to supply
The van was seized and removed from the road, helping to ensure public safety in the Wigan area.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Traffic said:
This is a great example of proactive policing. What started as a simple MOT stop led to taking a dangerous driver off our roads and disrupting potential criminal activity.”
The suspect remains in custody while further investigations continue.
