M25 SHUTDOWN: Major Crash Closes Surrey Motorway After Lorry Pile-Up
Two Lorries and Van Slam into Each Other Near Leatherhead
The M25 is completely closed in both directions after a serious collision involving two lorries and a van between junctions 8 and 9 in Surrey. An air ambulance was called to the scene and airlifted a man to hospital after the crash.
Three Drivers Injured, Massive Oil Spill Causes Chaos
Emergency services are dealing with injuries to three drivers. One lorry driver was rushed to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, while the other vehicle occupants suffered minor injuries. A large fuel spill across all four lanes has made the situation even more hazardous.
Surrey Police said: “We are at the scene of a serious collision on the #M25 just prior to the J9 slip road on the clockwise carriageway. There is a considerable fuel spill. Air Ambulance on scene.”
Lane Closures and Long Delays Expected
Police have opened just one lane to ease traffic, but warn the fuel leak is very dangerous—especially for motorcyclists—and could damage the road surface if not cleared quickly.
Motorists face severe delays, with some stuck in traffic for over three hours already. Surrey Fire and Rescue confirmed crews from Godstone, Salfords, and Leatherhead are battling the after-effects of the crash, working with Highways England to make the road safe and open extra lanes.
“Lanes one and two will remain closed until recovery is complete,” they said. Authorities are also assessing when junction 8 can safely reopen.
More updates to follow as emergency teams work around the clock.
