Police Hunt Teens After BB Gun Attacks Rock Gosport
Gosport is on edge after a string of BB gun incidents left locals rattled. Police are on patrol and hunting suspects following reports of youth-led anti-social behaviour involving suspected BB guns in public.
Victims Hit on Streets
On Monday 4 March, three people were hit by suspected BB pellets — thankfully none suffered serious injuries.
- A 62-year-old woman was struck on the leg on Pump Lane around 2pm. She spotted two youths cycling nearby.
- A 42-year-old man walking down Grove Road got hit on the shoulder at 3:30pm.
- A 39-year-old woman was also struck on her shoulder shortly after at Avery Lane.
Vandalism Spreads Across Gosport
Since 1 March, multiple reports of BB gun-linked damage have come in from roads including Dormy Way, Rowallan Avenue, The Drive, Maynard Close, and more.
Over the weekend, windows smashed at three houses on Elson Road, with one broken in the early hours of Sunday 10 March.
Witnesses describe a gang of four teenage boys, one with untidy blonde curly hair, all apparently wearing school uniforms or similar.
Police Crack Down, Urge Parents to Act
“This behaviour is extremely serious and could cause permanent injury,” said Inspector Richard Thompson. “BB guns look like real firearms to the public, especially from a distance, which makes this even more dangerous.”
“We’re talking to teens in the area and local schools are involved. We urge parents to speak to their children about the serious impact of this behaviour.”
“Possessing an imitation firearm in public is illegal under the Firearms Act 1968.”
